How old is my sewing machine, the serial number starts with a letter

We are often asked.... I have an old Singer sewing machine and I wonder if you could help me with its value and maybe you can tell me something about its age. I can see the the series number starts with letter then a series of digits, please can you tell me its age?

The answer is... Yes use the information below to find the date of manufacture if the serial number starts with a single letter. And for its value, well that's a difficult question to answer! as a rule of thumb, if your machine is over 100 years old it could be classed as an antique and will probably be worth more than one of 80 years of age may be you can find that answer in another FAQ on this website.
